Fanatical Jingoism: Why I Can't Root for Bruce for 24 hours

Basketball is an international sport. Nearly a fourth of the NBA will be foreign born next season. It makes the game better. However, it can create quite a conflict when one of your favorite players happens to run into the Stars and Stripes in an international competition. It transforms someone like Aaron Bruce from stellar Baylor guard into a threat to our national interest. The tournament is at the single elimination stage and we have a lot to prove. Bruce I hope your career continues to blossom at the B and one day you play in the NBA. But not tomorrow, tomorrow I hope that team USA decimates you and your teammates and puts Australia back where it belongs, as one of our colonies. Sorry Bruce, if only you were born in Texas and not the Texas of the Southern Hemisphere. USA, USA, USA…

  • Depends on whose guarding him. If it's that thug Carmello Anthony, then I'll gladly cheer Aaron the Bruce, but if it be King James or DWade, then I'm sorry, but U-S-A!

Let's hope our boy puts a up a few threes against the men he will join someday in the Assocation. Then, when they play, "Walzing Mathilda," or whatever the Aussie anthem is, when they receive the Bronze medal, he can hold his head up with pride, knowing he will most likely be on a LeBron poster in the States.

  • Normally I would agree with you. But in this case, whatever happens in the Association stays in the Association. This is team USA and that's Captain 'Melo. Under this set of circumstances, I want 'Melo to teach Bruce to “Stop Snitching".

  • Hope you didn't catch little B getting dunked on by those crazy Americans - namely Dwight Howard

  • I didn't see much of the game. Apparently there are different time zones. If you have a photo of Bruce getting dunked on or doing something cool I'd love to see it. I saw one with Lebron and Bruce, but Lebron is just passing and not posterizing. This really was a great opportunity for Bruce and I think it will improve his game.

  • I like to think of The Bruce as Drazen Petrovic reborn. That or Bobby Hurley Down Under. Either way, he got posterized.
